PROGRAMS
¡DUENDE! aims to offer an array of inclusive and diverse arts-based programming for youth ages 13-19 in the Long Beach area. Currently our programs include the following:
Workshops
We currently offer spoken word workshops. Our first round of workshops began on January 14th and will end on March 31st, 2012. We will be offering two spoken word workshop courses next year: one in the spring, one in the fall. We are also available to come to your school, community organization, or youth group to provide writing and performing workshops for a suggested donation fee.
Mentoring
We believe the arts can have a profound impact on the empowerment and development of a young person. We also know the importance having an experienced artist to encourage and guide youth as they begin to figure out who they want to be and the type of influence they want to have in their communities.
Performance Opportunities
We believe the skills that youth develop in our workshops should be put into practice by performing at open mics and events all over Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Youth Slam Team
Every year, the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Festival attracts more than 500 young poets from around the world to compete on teams in the largest youth poetry slam competition in the world. We hope to send a youth slam team to Brave New Voices every year.
