Youth Poetry Workshops
Our first round of 2012 Youth Poetry Workshops began Saturday, January 14th at Homeland Cultural Center's Manazar Gamboa Theater from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, March 31st, we will hold our 12th and final workshop session of the series. Any and all youth are welcome to participate in this final session, regardless of whether they've attended previous sessions.
Individual workshop dates were: 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, and 3/31.
During workshops, youth learned about the history of spoken word, its impact on American culture and society, and the power of the youth spoken word movement. They were exposed to popular contemporary adult and youth spoken word poets. They developed their own spoken word pieces on themes including identity, voice, imagination, expression, power, and community. Youth edited their own work, while also revising and critiquing the work of their peers. Workshops were facilitated by the ¡DUENDE! organizers, with special guest facilitators being brought in to provide a well-rounded, comprehensive insight into spoken word.
Questions and comments should be directed to [email protected].
If you are a youth and you've missed one of the workshops, please check the RESOURCES page to get information!
¡DUENDE! will hold a second round of workshops for youth in Fall 2012. Please visit this page in August 2012 for more information.
